Dear Books……get REAL please (ft. If I were a character in a book)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to ask a question. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you were in a book. If someone out there was reading what you were going through. Well I have and I think it’s really cool until you think what the book is going to be about. Like my life, it’s not interesting. AT ALL. So what could an author write about it. So I though, thought, thought and thought and came up with the perfect synopsis.

ughhhhh not again

                      THE LOST NOTEBOOK

Aditi was known to be the perfect girl, always careful, always safe. She was a perfect daughter, sister and the perfect friend. But that was all before that one fateful day. Everything’s perfect until Aditi realizes that she has lost her notebook…..one week before the exam. What follows is a series of difficulties as Aditi goes on a quest around her house to look for her notebook.

What People have to say about the Lost Notebook –

“This book is the most thrilling book I have ever read! All the character were so relatable.” – Aditi, Author of the book.

“Honestly, I loved the character of Aditi’s Mom. I could relate to her so much. Aditi is a bad daughter and her mother did the right thing by not helping her. Otherwise how will children learn.” – Aditi’s Mom, Author of How to train your Daughter and How to punish your Children.

“This book is a master-piece. It’s a short book so you can read it and then you can throw it out of the window when you realize that you just wasted your well earned money on something this bad.” – Aditi’s Dad, Author of My life, A One Man Army and Aditi’s biggest critique.

And this book could actually be written because this is the only interesting thing that could happen in my life.

Now that we have talked about my “autobiography” let’s have a real talk. After reading some books I have realized that books miss out on SO MANYYYY things which take place in our real life. And now I know what you’re going to say that “ugh…Aditi if authors would include all of these details, no one would read the book.” I know no one would read it but these small details would make the book more realistic Ok (for me at least)

But here are the things I want to be included in books.

Side note – I’m not saying that none of the books out there have these details but most of the books I have read never have any of these.

ughhhhh not again

SCHOOL – This is the most important one. How can you be my age and still not care about school. Like authors mention that these characters go to school but I can’t understand that how can you not go to school for so many days (without your attendance going low) and still pass that class. Like tell me your secret. I’m here sitting like “Ok I have exams in January, then I have another set of exams in February and then I have my Finals in March”. Like HOW?

ughhhhh not again

WASHROOM – I  agree with you guys that this is a very stupid point and no one wants to read any character going to the washroom but do book characters ever go to washroom or does their body function differently from ours. Because I have never seen you mention going to the washroom.

This would be me during Hunger Games.

“Let the 75th Hunger Games begin! And may the odds….wait we’re missing someone.”

“Oh yeah, that’s Aditi. She went to the washroom.”

“But didn’t she go 5 minutes back?”

“Yeah, but she wasn’t sure.”

“About what?”

“Well you know, 1 month in the wild…you have to be sure.We don’t have washrooms in their.

ughhhhh not again

PERIODS – So, girls get periods and most of the YA Fantasy novels I have read have never mentioned it. But how did Katniss and all the other girls survive the Hunger Games or since they were in the future, did they not get their periods. I mean HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW???!

You mean to tell me that all these girls fought tirelessly for like 3000 pages and periods were never mentioned. I mean talking about periods in dystopian novels will also you know motivate us when we’re having cramps that “Oh Katniss, Hermione, Annabeth and all other girls survived these cramps while also saving the whole freaking world!”

ughhhhh not again

FEAR – I don’t know how to explain this point but you must have come across at least one book in your life in which the main character hears something or finds something scary or dangerous, they feel that it is their duty to find out its meaning.

But I can’t imagine myself ever following anything dangerous. Seriously though, how many of you would wake up to see who made that noise when you’re in your bed in the middle of the night?

If I ever hear some noise or see something mysterious, these would be my exact thoughts-

“I’m sure someone else can find out more about it.”

“What was that noise? Is it burglars? Ok, I’ll just pretend I’m sleeping.”

“What is it? Oh, I am sorry I don’t see it”

“Should I slowly reach for my phone and call Mom?”

“What if they shoot me?”

Friend – Don’t make any noise.

Me – *Drops something on the floor* *Doesn’t pay attention and bumps into her friend*

Friend – Shhh

Me – Ok. *Suddenly feels like she’s about to sneeze* *Sneezes*

Killer – *Fires two bullets*

And I die.

And my friend also dies.

Because of me.

Guess you should never go on “some-super-secret-mysterious” expedition with me.

This is why I can never be like book characters.

But whatever it is, I love books. And in no way am I trying to hate on them. After all we all read books to escape reality. I might write a part two for this post because there are a lot of things I find missing in books.

Comments heheh

Do you feel the same as I do about these topics? Or you have a different opinion? Is there anything else you feel is not present in books? Or something which should NOT be in books? Tell meeeeee!!

  1. Oh my god! This post is so awesome! Especially how you pointed out the fact that there is no mention of periods in some of the great novels of today!

  2. Never have I ever related to anything more!! Yeah, if I were mentioned in a book it’d kinda go something like – “shreya loses her SST textbook two. Weeks. Before. Exam. Bookstore doesn’t have it in stock. Had to issue from library” or “shreya can’t cope with enormous tbr pile” or “shreya bored to death ’cause there are no new books to read and tbr pile is ignored” or “shreya wants to through tge library sst textbook out of the window as she hates Colonial agrarian policies but can’t because the librarian would crucio her”.
And yeah, why DON’T they include those stuff in books, especially periods??
    AMAZING post!👏👏😀

    1. It’s so weird that the only important/terrifying thing to happen in my life is me losing my textbooks before exam. And on top of that, the way teachers look at you when you tell them you lost your book and then they start asking so many questions. I mean, obviously I didn’t lose it on purpose.
And uggghh…….Colonial agrarian policies! Can we crucio them or avada kedavra?
And books should start including periods.
      Thank you for reading! ❤

  3. Yeah, I wish there was a more balanced approach to school in YA! It seems like books with high school settings either have the characters do nothing regarding school or their obsessive and studios over school. I’m neither. 😂 And then the main character ends up in a prestigious college? Um, what?

And the only fantasy book I’ve read that dealt with periods was Throne of Glass, and that was it. I don’t know if I want them to be mentioned all the time, since it’s not really relevant to the story that much, but it would be nice to have a mention!

    1. I guess it’s just me, but you have to pay at least some attention to school! And I find it so weird when characters don’t pay attention to school. I mean education is important. And if we don’t pay attention in school, our teachers all start saying the same line that “your parents work so hard every day and you all are just wasting their money.”

And I guess even I won’t like it that much if periods were mentioned all the time but I guess it’s okay to talk about them once in a while.
      Thanks for reading! ❤

  4. omg this is such a great post hahaha It’s so reaal!!! I really don’t think I would be the girl who hears a horrible creature is in the city and would run to kill the monster, I would probably run to my room and hide below my bed haha. and I’m really curious how they do their school, how little they care and still are the perfect students, I NEED THE ANSWERS haha

    1. RIGHT! WE NEED ANSWERS!!
And I get scared so easily, honestly I don’t think anyone would even ask me to help them. I’m the last person that would come in people’s mind to ask for help.
And school! How can they fight monsters and save the world and be toppers at the same time and here I am struggling with my exams and I hardly have time for anything else.
      Thanks for reading ❤

  5. I am smiling as an idiot here in my living room, in front of the computer screen 😀 this is such a great post idea. Very cool 😀 hilarious, too xD I’m so totally sharing it next week in my wrap up xD (not this one though.. already scheduled :D)

And so agree about periods. They are inexistent in books. As is frizzy hair. Or WASHING YOUR HAIR at all! Or getting sweaty nasty clothes? Or making them dirty at all xD brushing teeth either, it seems, now I think about it.

This post is seriously so hilarious. I really, really enjoyed it xD wonderful post!

    1. And I am here smiling after reading your comment. I AM SO SO HAPPY YOU LIKED THIS POST!!

OMG!! So many things and I could only come up with 4 things. Well, I could make a separate list for them but I agree so many things are non-existent in books. Frizzy hair and washing your hair should be there. And sweaty clothes and SWEATY FEET!! (now I am just embarrassing myself)

I am so glad you liked my post. Thanks for reading! ❤

  7. Such a good post. I totally agree with the period one like…I don’t understand how they manage to just go through and never have a period. Particularly in series, it’s like suddenly they don’t bleed haha.
